Emma, can you say something about yourself?
- Sure! My name is Emma Argiro and I am 25 years old. I am half Australian / half Italian and that's why I am here in Italy:  to learn to speak Italian. In Australia I work as a doctor. I studied for 6 years and then worked for two. This year is only for study and to take a vacation, a break from work for a short while!

What do you like to do in your free time?
- In my free time (this year), I like to study and get together with my friends. I am here not only to learn the language but also the culture and all about life in Italia.
And when you are at home and you’re not working, what do you like to do?
- I was learning karate at home. I meet up with friends, go to the beach. I am always out doing something!
When did you arrive in Italy?
- I arrived on the 20th of February and I started the study on the 1st of March this year.
Was it your first time in Siena?
- No, the second time. Three years ago I was in Siena with three friends, but only for three days!
What do you think of Siena?
- I like it very much. Siena is very beautiful! It is small but in my opinion it is better this way. There are not too many cars or people, and it is much easier to get to know the people.
Did you get to know many people in Siena?
- Yes. I am so fortunate to know a lot of foreigners as well as Italians, both girls and guys.
Why did you want to learn Italian?
- My father was Italian but unfortunately I never learned the language.

- Yes! This is the perfect time for me to be doing this.
If I wanted to visit your country, which place would you recommend to me?
- You must visit my city, Perth! It is a beautiful city situated on the ocean and there's also a river. There is a lot to do in the outdoors, many types of sports and different places to visit. It is hard to tell you everything about Perth. There is so much, but it really is a great place to visit!
Your experience at Saena Iulia?
- Saena Iulia is a beautiful school. The staff is so open, kind and just very natural. Also I have found my fellow students to be the same. It is a very comfortable atmosphere here.
Have you met people of all ages, or only of your age?
- I have gotten to know people from the ages of 18 to over 40, really from all age groups. This really adds to the nice environment of the school.
What advice can you give to a person that wants to study in Italy?
- Do it! It is such a magnificent experience. At first it was a little scary but it really is such a worthwhile experience. Just come!
Do you intend to continue you Italian studies?
- I hope so! There are a lot of schools in Australia so when I return I want to continue to learn.

Emma, puoi dire qualcosa di te stessa?
- Sì, mi chiamo Emma Argiro, ho 25 anni, sono mezza australiana e mezza italiana, per questo sono qui in Italia a imparare l’italiano. In Australia sono un medico, ho studiato 3 anni e poi ho lavorato 2 anni, ma quest’anno è solo per studiare, una vacanza, una piccola pausa!
Che cosa ti piace fare nel tempo libero?
- Nel tempo libero mi piace studiare, certamente, anche incontrare amici, imparare tutto, non solo la lingua ma anche cultura e tutto quello che è la vita in Italia.
E quando sei a casa e non lavori che cosa fai?
- Sì, faccio un po’ di karatè e incontro sempre amici, sulla spiaggia, ecc. Quando sono a casa sono sempre fuori!
Quando sei arrivata in Italia?
- Sono arrivata il 20 febbraio e ho cominciato a studiare il 1° marzo, quest’anno.
Era la prima volta a Siena?
No, la seconda volta. Sono già stata qui solo per 3 giorni, 3 anni fa, con 3 altri amici!
Cosa pensi di Siena?
- Mi piace molto. Siena è bellissima! E’ piccola, ma secondo me è meglio così. Non ci sono tante macchine, tante persone ed è più facile conoscere la gente.
Hai conosciuto molta gente a Siena?
Sì, sono stata molto fortunata, conosco tanti stranieri e tanti italiani, ragazzi e ragazze, sì …
Perché hai voluto imparare l’italiano?
- Mio padre era italiano ed io non avevo mai imparato l’italiano …
… ed era il momento giusto per cominciare …
- … sì, sì, certo! E’ vero!
Se io volessi visitare il tuo paese, quale posto mi consiglieresti?
- Dovresti visitare la mia città, Perth! Perché è una bella città, sul mare, di solito ci sono tante cose da fare fuori, c’è un fiume, puoi fare sport, visitare molti posti, veramente tutto! E’ difficile dire ogni cosa … ma è veramente una bella città!
La tua esperienza alla scuola Saena Iulia?
- Sì, Saena Iulia è una bellissima scuola, persone molto aperte, molto gentili e naturali! E anche gli altri studenti sono allo stesso modo! E’ un’atmosfera molto comoda.
Hai conosciuto persone di tutte le età o solo della tua età?
- No, da 18 anni a 40 anni e anche più, veramente di tutte le età. E’ meglio così, l’ambiente è più bello.
Che consiglio puoi dare a una persona che vuole venire a studiare in Italia?
- “Vai!” Sì, è una esperienza bellissima. Prima avevo un po’ paura, ma veramente è una esperienza molto valida, vale la pena. Solo “Vai!”…
Pensi di continuare a studiare l’italiano?
- Spero di sì! Ci sono tante scuole anche nel mio paese, così quando tornerò in Australia voglio continuare!
